ModalChoice.com Rails and Trails Banner

Recently I became motivated to do something different in my life. That something was to buy a bicycle and hit the trails that snake through the countryside in just about every state. The abandoned railroad grades that followed rivers and streams make an excellent passage for hikers and bikers. The term "bike" is used loosely because it actually has three wheels, a "trike" to be more accurate. The be even more accurate, it is a recumbent hand-trike. (More about the Trike.)

My reasons for the recumbent hand-trike become obvious when understood in the context of a mountain climbing incident some 30 years ago when I broke my back and have used a wheelchair for all of those years since. As an avid hiker, canoeist, climber, camper, etc. I covered many miles of trails, rivers, bush and highways enjoying the open spaces. After The Fall, my time was engaged in school, work, house, and married life. There was little time to pursue such activities. My wife and I did make the occasional vacation driving a 1200 mile loop around Arizona, canoeing the Okeefenokee and seeing the more civilized destinations in the eastern part of the nation. But now she is off on her own pursuing her own interests and I have time, funds and the inclination to get moving.

To make a long tale shorter, this site is dedicated to logging what the Rail Trails and other passages have to offer to the enthusiast and offer opportunities for people to meet and follow the lesser traveled road together.

Since I have been riding the trails since late summer of 2003, the number of trails is still small. But since Spring 2004 arrives, this list is definitely growing.
